China's newly added wind power installed capacity ranks first in the world, with huge potential for the future
On October 13th, the Renewable Energy Professional Committee of the China Association for Comprehensive Utilization of Resources, the International Environmental Protection Organization Greenpeace, and the Global Wind Energy Council jointly released the China Wind Power Development Report 2010 in Beijing. The report shows that China ranked first in the world in terms of newly installed wind power capacity in 2009, and has become a leading player in the development of the global wind power industry. The report also points out that China's wind energy potential is enormous, with a cumulative installed capacity of 230 million kilowatts by 2020, equivalent to 13 Three Gorges power stations; The total power generation can reach 464.9 billion kilowatt hours, which is equivalent to replacing 200 thermal power plants.
"The rapid development of the Chinese economy means long-term high energy demand, and with the arduous mission of greenhouse gas reduction and environmental protection, the selection of alternative energy technologies has become an urgent task. Against this background, China's wind power development in 2009 once again demonstrated China's confidence in developing clean energy to the world," said Li Junfeng, Secretary General of the Renewable Energy Professional Committee of the China Association for Comprehensive Utilization of Resources.
The report shows that as of the end of 2009, China's newly installed wind power reached 13.8 million kilowatts, surpassing the United States and becoming the country with the world's largest newly installed wind power capacity that year. The total number of newly installed wind turbines that year reached 10129, with an average of 27 per day, equivalent to erecting one wind turbine per hour. At the same time, the cumulative installed capacity has reached 25.8 million kilowatts, ranking second in the world. "In 2010, one out of every three installed units in the world was in China," said Steve Sawyer, President of the Global Wind Energy Council
Li Junfeng said, "Last year, the growth rate of newly installed capacity reached 124.3%, which is also the fourth consecutive year of doubling growth. Currently, the construction of seven 'tens of millions of kilowatts' wind power bases in China is progressing rapidly. From the deserts of Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang to the coastal and coastal areas of Jiangsu, a total of 24 provinces and autonomous regions have established their own wind farms by the end of last year."
According to the report's "conservative plan", "optimistic plan", and "positive plan" for the future development of wind power, China's wind power development will reach 150-230 million kilowatts by 2020. "Wind power is one of the cleanest energy sources. If China reaches its development goal of 230 million kilowatts of wind power by 2020, it will help reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 410 million tons per year, or reduce the consumption of nearly 150 million tons of standard coal," said Yang Ailun, the project manager of Greenpeace Climate and Energy. "However, this proactive plan not only requires more proactive policy incentives, but also needs to overcome the bottleneck problem of wind power grid connection as soon as possible."
At present, the difficulty of wind power grid connection has become one of the biggest problems faced by future wind power development. The report proposes a series of measures and suggestions to address this issue, such as clarifying the responsibilities and reward and punishment mechanisms of power grid enterprises for consuming wind power, reasonable planning and development, sorting out the allocation of grid connection costs, mobilizing price leverage, etc., while quickly overcoming technical obstacles such as wind power output prediction, grid connection, scheduling, energy storage, and power grid construction.
Yang Ailun said, "Wind power is the most economically competitive type of new energy, which can not only help China gradually get rid of the pollution problem caused by coal combustion and cope with climate change, but also become a manifestation of the new global green economic competitiveness." The report shows that in 2009, China's wind turbine products reached over 15 million kilowatts of installed capacity, with a total output value of RMB 150 billion, adding more than 30 billion yuan in taxes to the national finance. This industry also provides nearly 150000 job opportunities in the employment field directly related to wind power.
Li Junfeng said, "The development of wind power in China has only begun, and the real performance has not yet begun." This confident expectation has also been recognized by Steve Sawyer, who said, "The Chinese wind power industry has the potential to dominate the world market. Leaders of various countries often talk about occupying the world energy market, and China is doing what it says, providing signals for the world market and indicating the direction of development. I believe that the content of this report will continue to be updated in the near future." (Source: Sohu Green)
